Code Typing guide

What gets counted and where the code snippets come from.

What Code Typing is

Code Typing has you type a line of code exactly as shown.

This isn't vocabulary memorization: it trains your fingers to find symbol positions.

Snippets are split into three stages: brackets and symbols, short syntax, and real-world one-liners.

Every snippet is written by us for this app.

How this app counts

First-try lines

A line typed to the end with zero mistakes.

Clicking show answer means it doesn't count as first-try.

A line you miss goes into your wrong list.

Accuracy and speed

Character accuracy is set characters minus first-mistake characters, divided by set characters.

Speed is WPM: correct characters divided by 5, divided by minutes elapsed.

Review schedule

A missed line comes back 1 day later.

Get it right and it comes back in 3 days, then 7, then it drops off the schedule.

Every set and the wrong list are always free, no subscription needed.

Your data

Progress stays in this device's browser storage only. Nothing is sent to a server.

Basic tips

Stuck on a line? Click show answer rather than sitting on it. It'll come back in your wrong list.

Paste is blocked on purpose: typing by hand is what builds the habit.

Going through brackets first, then syntax, then snippets, tends to go more smoothly.

Common issues

Paste doesn't work

That's intentional. This is a hand-typing practice tool, so pasted input isn't accepted.

Multiple characters appear at once on my phone

That's autocomplete or predictive text. Turn it off in your keyboard settings.
